“Whatchu thinking about?” Is what I named this piece and it’s exactly what I asked the little frog sitting on my window seal. I was taking my dog out to go pee and the little guy caught my eye. It was as if it was waiting for me to open the door and see it. So I rushed to go get my camera and of course I realized I misplaced it 🤦🏿‍♂️. Frantically tore the studio apart to find that thing in what felt like a good 15 mins. I was like man that frog probably gone by now but no it was still there patiently waiting. Didn’t even move a muscle. 🤝🏿 Secured the photo, mission accomplished. Now months went by and I kept thinking about the frog and kinda grew a little obsession over why it was that I kept thinking about frogs in general. At first I thought to myself oh they just interesting looking creatures to draw. But then I stopped and really asked myself what I saw that night and as crazy as it may sound, I saw myself. As we know, the proverb tells people to observe the Ant and follow her ways but I decided to see what the frogs had going on too lol. I saw that everything is a mirror. The same reason why you could look at a rock and say it looks happy or sad. The reason why we are able to see aspects of ourselves in other people in our environment. The things that we collect or the different ways we express ourselves. They are all reflections of ourself. So why a frog? For me, made me think about the cycles and patterns that made me who I am as an individual. How each one of us is currently in a unique season and if you pay close enough attention you’ll notice which stage of the life cycle you are currently in. We tend to live life and ignore the cycles that keep on repeating and we mistake movement for growth. I made this piece to remember that . “Whatchu thinkin about?” 30 x 40 Oil pastel on Canvas . #zuluabassa #oilpastelart #frogart #canvaspainting
