@making_senseofit_w.katt: We have created a generation where being cruel is sometimes confused with being empowered. Mocking people. Excluding people. Public shaming. Cutting people off. Humiliating people online. And the scary part is that it’s no longer just daughters doing it. Some of our sons are becoming emotionally vicious too. Somewhere along the line, kindness became weakness and meanness became confidence. But emotionally healthy people do not need to dominate, punish, embarrass, or destroy others to feel powerful. We should probably stop laughing this off as “just how this generation is” because some of this behavior is deeply relationally destructive. Mean girls grow up. And sometimes they become mean adults with real power to hurt people.#relationships #fyp #parents #NoContact #meangirls
Or… how about this: No one is entitled to another persons time or energy.

No. I’m being kind to myself by cutting out toxic family. ✌ I don’t have to surround myself with people who mistreat me simply because they hold a title.

Boundaries are fine, even with people you love. Cutting truly toxic people out of your life is fine. We need to remember, though, that perfectly normal, healthy families have conflicts. Good parents make mistakes. Almost every adult child goes through a period where things are very bumpy with one or both parents. That’s normal. When you love each other you at least try to work it out. Most of the time you eventually do. I have to say again, I’m not talking about truly toxic families. I’m not talking about parents who really don’t have their children’s best interests at heart. I’m talking about the parents who try their best with the skills they have at the time, and despite loving their kids to the moon and back still manage to screw up sometimes.

People are not required to have a relationship with anyone they don’t want to regardless of their relationship to them. Being cruel is never ok, but relationships are not a given.

I think people have a right to have who they want in their lives. If your loved ones don’t want you in their life maybe you need to reflect on why that might be. On the other hand some people are just malcontents and nothing you do will please them. You need to learn to let those people go. If you’ve truly looked into yourself and feel as though you’ve done nothing to warrant this behavior then be done, move on. It’s not about being mean, it’s about living your life the way you choose to live it.

For those saying that she is talking only about cutting people out of their life she isn’t. She also points out the humiliation that goes on every day. She is correct. Being so cruel to one another is a way of life now and that’s sad

There’s part of me that agrees with you and part of me that doesn’t. It depends on the situation. I come from a generation that didn’t have boundaries. I’m proud of my kids for creating some. and I’ve learned to create my own. I do think sometimes it’s taken to an extreme and could be softened. But I don’t think it’s ian either or. By hard lining it in the other direction we’re not staying open to finding a balance.

What happened to the days when we all just jogged along together. Sometimes we would disagree but it was soon over and forgotten. We always turned up for each other when needed. I think it’s not family that’s been lost it’s worse it’s community

Family can be extremely abusive so be careful about this message that doesn’t apply to all, because some of these people that you think you know online that you really don’t, have come from extreme abuse and are helping other’s cope by posting about it. While it’s possible that some are just mean girls some are also not that.

Part of it has to do with social media where you can block people and have go through channels to have relationships with people.
