I never believed people when they said you should check under your bed before going to sleep. Then one night, I wish I had. I was staying at my parents’ house for the weekend. It was around midnight when I went upstairs and went to bed. Everything was normal. I watched videos on my phone for a while, turned off the lights, and fell asleep. A few hours later, I woke up because I heard something hit the floor. I opened my eyes. My room was completely dark. I reached for my phone. 3:17 AM. I turned on the flashlight and looked around. Nothing. Then I heard it again. A quiet scratching sound. Coming from underneath my bed. I froze. At first, I convinced myself it was probably a mouse. I slowly lowered my phone toward the floor. The flashlight barely reached underneath the bed. I couldn’t see anything. Then my phone slipped out of my hand. It fell between the bed and the wall. I leaned over to grab it. That’s when I saw a hand. It was underneath my bed. I jumped up so fast I almost fell. I ran out of my room and woke up my parents. My dad came upstairs with a flashlight. He looked underneath the bed. Nothing. We searched the entire room. Nothing. My dad told me I must have been half asleep. I eventually went back to bed. I didn’t sleep much. The next morning, I felt stupid for freaking out. Until I found something. My phone was still underneath the bed. I picked it up and checked the camera. It had accidentally been recording when I dropped it. I watched the video. For the first few seconds, it was just darkness. Then I heard my breathing. Then the camera moved slightly. And for about two seconds… I saw a face underneath my bed. It was staring directly at the phone. I immediately showed my parents. My dad searched under the bed again. Still nothing. Then he noticed something behind the headboard. A small opening in the wall. There was a crawl space between the walls of the house. Police searched it. They found an old blanket. Empty food wrappers. Bottles of water. And a pillow. Someone had been living inside the walls. But what scared me the most was what the police found next. A small notebook. Inside were dates.
