i'm sorry but considering how the writers if atla added so many details to the firenation royal family from real life imperial royals troughout history...they probablly also took royals gatekeeping some stuff from the general public to fullfill their superiority complex while also keeping the public convinced that it's true that they were superior. I firmly believe that lightning is not that insane of a subskill and the royal family just gatekept it.
