Kapitalisme telah mengubah makna hidup menjadi biaya hidup. Bahkan cinta menjadi alat hitung untung rugi.

(Version française sera postée demain) Taken from my Instagram, this carousel explores intellectualising. As I was thinking about intellectualising, I found myself drifting towards a broader conversation. Before evolutionary forces selected for our big brains, we could already feel. Being able to experience fear, disgust, attraction, curiosity, and act on that information was how our vertebrate ancestors navigated the world. So why on earth would we disconnect from something time-tested and useful? 🧬🧐 Many of us live in societies that often reward analysis over experience, explanation over sensation, and understanding over feeling. When viewed through that lens, I can see why intellectualising is such a common defence mechanism. It is, in part, a reflection of our cultural values. And if you start looking at unhealthy behaviour at that cultural level, provocative questions emerge. If emotions evolved because they helped us stay safe, what does it say about our collective relationship to safety that we so often place distance between ourselves and our emotions? What does it say that many of us trust our explanations more readily than our experiences? Ever the cultural critic, I guess lol. But framing intellectualising this way moved it from being a personal habit to being part of a much larger story about how we relate to their emotions. Intellectualising is a fascinating topic to become dangerously educated about!!! 🧠 🌙 🪄🪻 Anyway. There’s plenty of information to chew through in this reel, along with recommendations for further reading. In Responding to Cognitive Dissonance, I discuss several common ways we respond to psychological discomfort. Intellectualising is one of them. I wanted this reel to revisit a topic my readers might already recognise because it occupies an interesting place in pop psychology. I hope this reel helps you become more on top of intellectualising. 🫶🏾🌻🌞📚 @R. K.
