@bellahoppa: Sardinia is not one tiny island road trip. Distances are much bigger than people expect, and choosing the right sleep base completely changes the trip. North east Sardinia works best for classic first-time beaches and boat trips. The east coast feels more adventurous with dramatic coves and longer movement days. South Sardinia is calmer and easier to combine with city life and beaches. And the north west has a completely different atmosphere with historic towns and scenic coastline. If I were young and didn’t have to worry about world class medical care, I’d move to Costa Smeralda in a heartbeat. There’s no denying it’s one of the most breathtaking places in all of Italy. It’s where royalty, billionaires, celebrities, and the international elite vacation and own homes. The beauty is simply beyond words. Sardinia isn’t the right choice. As beautiful as it is, it’s extremely expensive, it doesn’t qualify for Italy’s 7% tax regime, and for someone caring for an elderly parent with serious medical needs, access to top tier specialized hospitals is everything. In many complex medical situations, that means traveling to the Italian mainland, which simply isn’t practical during an emergency. Sometimes the most beautiful place isn’t the best place to live. For me, peace of mind comes from knowing world class healthcare is also close by, even if it means choosing a different corner of Italy. .
