You pay taxes even with cash. For example, here in Greece we have 24% tax to any product we are buying. So if i buy something that costs 100€, 24€ going to taxes. Now the 100€ you paid are 76€ just in another person's pocket. If he proceeds to buy something that costs 76€, 24% (18,24€) of these money goes again to taxes and the next person takes 57,76€. Repeat this another three times and see what happens...
