@daniellethomas358: Today i had my appointment with the amazing physio/rehabilitation nurse. She really is a breath of fresh air, she is a fountain of Information & each time she helps squash the nerves & anxiety that little bit more. Today I had a look in the rehabilitation/physio room & also at the different types of prosthetics for each stage of my amputation. The 1st 'cage' you definitely cant call that a leg, is the 1st that ks used, typically around 4-6weeks when your wound has healed. This attached with a blow up sleave and is used to help practise balance and to start desensitising the wound. The second leg (these legs are bariatric legs, so look alot bigger than mine will be) This is your 1st 'proper prosthetic leg'. This leg, you have the hard socket that your little leg...I cant call it a stump 🤢 fits in & with this you have a specialized liner made & moulded to your leg, this is while your swelling stabilises, this can take up to a year or so which will mean lots of appointments with the prosthetics team to keep changing and adjusting to ensure the fit is kept perfect. As because I have a circulation disease, I can not risk as pressure sores or blisters. The 3rd leg is more of a aesthetically, pleasing, but not the best for active people, but the liner which is called a pin anchor is for after the swelling has stabilised and gives you a better fit to your long term leg. Even after my amputation, it will still be a massive uphill battle as my remaining full leg suffers with really bad claudication and my arms still ofter blow my veins so restrict movement at times, which is a scary thought as I will be massively relying on my arms afterwards. So much to take in after today but it was definitely a massive help. Next im going to finish my list of questions ready for my 2nd opinion with Sheffield on Friday. Iv got this.....I think....I hope 😅 #fyp #amputeelife #positivevibes #mystory #fighter
