As a single mom to a toddler in daycare, I have my phone on silent but if I get a call from daycare, I'm answering it. I'm a mom before I'm a therapist.

I'm a child welfare therapist that uses a modality that consists of certain modules and a lot of roleplay. One module is active communication. For this module, I do a secret roleplay where I'm a bad listener. I ask them to tell me about something and then pretend to scroll on my phone. It's so out of character that my clients are completely shocked. Inevitably, they realize what's happening and laugh. Usually they recognize a trait in themselves when their kids are talking to them, and it ultimately hits hard. That's my ONLY exception.

Only time I ever! Do this is if I’m messaging front office relating to coordinating some specific care that the client needs imminently and it’s for and about the client!

the ONLY exception I use with this is that I'm chronically ill and always expecting calls/messages from my doctors; however, all of my patients are fully aware and are comfortable with it!!

I use my phone as a computer at times to print resources, worksheets, whatever and even then I feel weird and make sure they can see what I’m doing 😳

genuinely tho I think my therapist has only ever texted once during a session that was because it was her husband home with the sick kids and he needed to know which med otherwise it's normally off on the side table
