@tjz2025: There are actually valid reasons why adults don’t get diagnosed until their adulthood, but searching out a diagnosis, not getting one, and then still thinking you are somebody who falls into that diagnosis is straight out wrong. Yes doctors can be wrong with this. Isn’t one of those cases, especially if you went to 12 of them… . The amount of tone, deaf people who just think about themselves when the conversation of autism comes up is absolutely insane. People always say “your experiences are not a monolith” while simultaneously treating their own experiences as the only ones that are valid… . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . ##Autism##ActuallyAutistic##Neurodivergent##SchrodingersAutism##Psychology

You do realise it’s possible to have autism but not qualify for a diagnosis. The first time I went for an assessment I was like 8 and they said that even though I showed clear signs of autism they didn’t want to diagnose me because it wasn’t causing me enough problems, but when I went back when I was older, I got the diagnosis

See mine is the opposite where I’ve gone to over 13 different doctors throughout my life and they’ve all agreed I have autism. But I’m very adamant I don’t have autism. Is that Schrödinger’s autism?

i think a lot of people want an autism diagnosis to have the excuse for the fact that they are socially inept and just weird

Scared to get a diagnosis because what if I don’t have it and I’m just fucking weird and it’s all my fault forever

I have a whole bunch of friends who have diagnosed autism and all of them tell me I have it but I have a really bad problem of copying the behaviors of people around me so I fit in cus I’m no good with social stuff so I don’t think it counts, also in like elementary school I got the school evaluation and they said I didn’t have it but then my therapist said she thinks I have it, but like they said i didn’t have it in elementary school so idk.

I say I have Suspected Autism. I'm waiting for my doctors to sort the appointment out. autism is very strongly in the family, I have many traits, a lot of people also belive I am autistic. those reasons are why I say suspected autism since I am yet to be diagnosed, but it is very likely that I do.

The tests I took came back with high results, but I used that to realise I needed to go to a professional. Once I got to my assessment the assessor was sure I am autistic. 2 days later the panel met and agreed with the evidence shared that I do have autism. I didn’t identify as autistic until I got that paperwork with their decision, because it was now evidenced rather than just my opinion

I did walk on my tippy toes as a kid. Idk why but I did. Eventually I grew out of it. I think that people research traits of autism and then mirror them.

When I was diagnosed they talked more with my parents than me, I didn’t know much about autism and I cried when I was told. I wanted to be normal and so did my parents. I think they talked with my parents more to see how I was as a child. (I know more about it now and I am fine with having the diagnosis and have helped me a lot to have the diagnosis)

neurodivergent ppl are good a spotting others but not with a 100% quote .its good to get an idea abt what it is for individual and peak an interest in looking into it yourself to later get a diagnoses but its sooo not foolproof .

Some autistics think that anyone they can relate to or vibe with must be autistic. Which is probably why all her autistic frds think she's autistic.

She said that bit about autistic adults telling her she had it, which she seems to be taking to heart - tbh I've noticed a trend that various neurodivergent people I know have been very quick to suggest I have autism when I straight up don't have it, and I think maybe it's because they identify with certain elements of my personality we share (which is natural, we're friends!), but I've never had the struggles that come with autism, I never had meltdowns as a kid, have never been picky with food, never had an issue with routine change, facial expressions, tone, etc, and no amount of 'having strong interests' can override that.
