Your brain naturally doesn’t understand that the person you believed to be safe after so many months or years actually isn’t, it takes a lot longer to process than the event itself and takes a crazy amount of willpower MOST people don’t possess to just walk away, you’ll want to reason, make sense of it, and of course, go to the person who normally comforts you for that comfort. It’s messed up, it hurts, but it doesn’t make you stupid. Recognize the person isn’t safe and make an exit plan. Be kinder to yourself.
