You’re voice and the way you tell the procedure is relaxing and inviting. I’ve just finished my treatment and wish I had found this video beforehand. But I have shared to those who may be about to start their journey,

For rectal cancer, is it better, or both, to have radiotherapy of 25 grays before surgery and/or 25 grays after?

Thank you so much for explaining so clearly how RT works. I had RT for breast cancer on my left side. I still get pain, definitely fibrous 3 years later.

Does this applies only for breast cancer? I had tongue cancer which spread to my neck area. Completed 30 sessions…

I notice some patients are offered reconstructions before they start their radiotherapy and others are told to wait until after. Why?

Can you explain why a cancer cell divides more rapidly and why radiotherapy (and chemotherapy) affects them particularly more than healthy cells?

I had 30 rounds of radiation 9 years ago. Left breast. Have lymphedema in left breast and a few rounds of cellulitis but grateful for my life. Have scar tissue and some lung damage but was well worth it. Thank you for explaining how it works.

I had radiotherapy in January 15 sessions plus 4 boosts, I am now on 4th cycle of chemo (4 to go) I had iv chemo and surgery last year. But it’s now I’m really struggling with lethargy - I think oral chemo can cause that and after watching this the radiotherapy may be playing a part as well. I am right sided breast cancer, but had to do breath holds as there nodules in the centre of my chest they wanted to zap as well.

Unfortunately, none of these developments in radiotherapy were around when I had mine in 2007, which means I'm living with the long term damage. Glad that people having radiotherapy now may not have to deal with those long term effects.

I've had 7 sessions so far & my boobie hurts a lot & my nipple has changed colour, I hope it doesn't fall off🤣. I'm scared my cancer will come back many years later. I expect every patient fears this. Jxx

Radiation doesn't cause 100% damage to cancer cells; some irradiated cancer cells may find a way to repair themselves and continue dividing. There may also be cancer cells invisible on MRI that were outside the irradiated area. My question is: if there is a recurrence, can a second session of 25 grays be added?
