Pitch and volume variation is so good at getting attention that we use the extreme version to sell things in crowds ('GET your HOt dOGS') and for literal ambulance sirens

People will also take it as rudeness or aggressiveness when they're confronted with words they just don't know. I don't know how many times I've been perceived as rude just because I used "higher level" vocabulary that the person I was speaking to didn't understand. It is often thought that I do it on purpose to make them sound or feel stupid, and that's far from the case 🤣. It comes back around to me though because I also get made fun of when I accidentally let my texan accent slip out in public.

My dad soooo has this problem. Just the other day he was giving me a bike. He wanted me to wear a helmet when riding. Fair request, he had a bad bike accident once that would have left him paralyzed if it weren’t for his helmet. But his tone was a sharp and accusatory “you need wear a helmet!” With a tone that made it seem like he think I like scattering my brains across the sidewalk. It’s so frustrating, because I know he means well, but his anxiety almost makes him treat others as if he thinks they are stupid

I feel it's important to note that gender presentation plays a big part in this too: people tend to be much less forgiving of sharp tone from women and quicker to interpret boldness and certainty as rudeness.
