Sometimes a believer finds themselves returning to the same sin again and again, even though their heart knows it is wrong and sincerely wants to stop. This struggle does not mean that the person is a hypocrite or that Allah has abandoned them. In reality, the very fact that the heart feels guilt and wants to change is a sign of faith still alive inside. Leaving a recurring sin begins with honesty, the believer must sit with themselves and ask why they keep returning to it and what emptiness, weakness, or environment is pulling them back. True repentance is not only saying Astaghfirullah, but also understanding the roots of the behavior and actively seeking to change the conditions that lead to it. A person may need to distance themselves from certain situations, habits, or influences that repeatedly bring them back to the same mistake. The journey away from sin also requires humility, because recognizing one’s weakness opens the door to Allah’s mercy. Allah does not expect perfection from His servants, but He loves when they repeatedly return to Him in repentance and continue striving to improve. Each sincere attempt to leave a sin brings the believer closer to Allah, even if the struggle takes time.
