@nocturne_chrome: I just don’t get how we strayed so far away from where we were. I understand compromises. But they basically compromised on everything and kept nothing. Is performance really the be all end all that anybody care cares about? Surely there’s still a large enough demographic out there that doesn’t care about losing 10 or 15% aerodynamic efficiency for a car that actually looks interesting.
safety like you said, but also interesting cars don't sell well enough to justify their existence in late stage capitalism. Most people don't actually want interesting cars, they want to conform, not stand out.

naw, don't tell me it's because of aerodynamics when cars like this exist

Yes this! I miss when I could tell at a glance roughly which brand a vehicle was built by. Now they're all so bland that you have to look for the badge otherwise you've no idea.

Tbh I love old cars way more than the new ones, also because the new ones got too much tech for my liking but maybe that’s just my opinion :,>

It's mostly to be standard in the making of parts, just look at how Volkswagen has many interchangeable parts with Audi, Skoda and Seat. This practice normally reduces production costs which always favors the share holders

China is actually making NEW modern vehicles, with classic americana designs. they just had a whole car show highlighting what looked like classic cars from the 40s-50s -tailfins and all-, but with built in GPS, modern safety equipment, and modern windows/sound system/convertible options!

I was talking about this exact thing, older cars are sooo cool and recognisable! Nowadays you see a car and there’s a good chance that unless you’re close enough to see the brand name or logo, you will get it wrong.
