It is incredibly niche- “The Quibbler” podcast had a whole episode discussing capital in the wizarding world that was super interesting.. Basically, their economy is fucked. Its (theoretically) one of the reasons Voldemort was able to gain as much support as he did. Muggle-born students would come in with more purchasing power than wizard-born families.

Once you realize JK was dumb about world building, then all of it makes sense. She didn’t think that deep about her world. Just a very simple “wizard world” for kids to accept.

There are goblin account managers at Gringotts but we only see Harry’s trust vault in the first film. There would’ve been another main Potter family vault that would look similar to the Lestrange vault from Deathly Hallows, holding not just gold but other artifacts as well, that Harry likely would’ve gotten access to when he turned 17 and became a legal adult in the wizarding world.

Have you seen the Wizard world, apparently the only businesses are whatever is in Diagon Alley and then a couple mom and pops in Hogsmeade, and everyone either works at the MoM or lives at Hogwarts 😂 Ms Rowling didn’t really build a world, not a lot of options 😭

It’s helpful to remember the book is written through the eyes of an 11-year-old. Even if there was wizard inflation and APY, Harry only sees “shiny pile of gold” because he’s literally a child

The Wizarding world has little to no import or export and trade with the other world or countries. As such inflation isn't really a thing there either, a wand has been the same cost for hundreds of years. There is no stock market because nothing is publicly traded and nothing is owned by large corporate Entities. There's no APY because there's nothing for anyone to invest in to grow money.

If I recall, families continue to receive money for inventions created by their family, so Harry’s savings continued to grow from his family’s previous success. He had literally nothing to worry about financially.

His paternal grandfather invented a potion that made the family rich & I’m assuming similar to how some real life inventions the estate continues to collect royalties from licensing the patent. & I’d argue that there’s a likelihood wizards had some form of life insurance policy so add that to the pot.
