@shexuit: Circassians, also known as the Adyghe, are an indigenous people of the northwest Caucasus, a region that today lies mostly within Russia along the Black Sea coast. They have a history stretching back thousands of years and traditionally lived in tribal societies with a strong warrior culture and a highly developed code of conduct known as Adyghe Khabze, which regulates behavior, honor, and social relations. Their language belongs to the Northwest Caucasian family and is considered linguistically unique. In the 19th century, Circassians were profoundly affected by the expansion of the Russian Empire during the Russian–Circassian War, which ended in 1864 with mass expulsions and killings; many Circassians and historians refer to these events as the Circassian Genocide. As a result, the overwhelming majority of the population was forced to leave their homeland, with many resettling in the Ottoman Empire. Today, most Circassians live in countries such as Turkey, Jordan, Syria, and Israel, while smaller populations remain in their historical homeland in republics like Adygea, Kabardino-Balkaria, and Karachay-Cherkessia. Despite their dispersion, Circassians have maintained a strong cultural identity centered on traditions of hospitality, respect, music, and especially dance, which is known for its precision and elegance, as well as distinctive clothing such as the chokha.
