Fun fact, the “lupin” in his name would have been pronounced “lou-pawn” due to the french origin in the syllables. This is why in certain dubs of Lupin III you hear his name pronounced like that!

Hilariously enough, I got into Lupin III after playing Persona 5. Took a moment to realize the link, but since then, I’ve been amazed by all the neat little nods. There’s even a nod to Lupin’s run from the original anime (same run done again and again across the franchise) at the very beginning when Joker is fleeing from the police. There’s also nods to Edogawa Ranpo and his detective Kogoro Akechi. The original Lupin and Akechi faced off in Ranpo’s “Gold Mask”. Lupin III Part 6 did a two-parter on that particular story. It further connects Lupin III to another anime in a literary sense: Case Closed!
