I had gotten used to saying "grüezi!" in ZRH and then I moved to Bern. Now I'm so used to "grüssech!" and then the receptionist at my German language school said "Grüezi" and I was like EXCUSE ME THIS IS BERN 😂

as child i moved from vienna to st gallen, it was like learning a completely new language. Hochdeutsch is basically taught as separate language in schools

A big difference (in my opinion) is the R sound. You say it at the back of the throat, which is very high German. Swiss roll the R sound at the front, behind the teeth.

For me it's less a version but more a distinct language even though technically speaking it probably isn't. It's pretty much as distinct a language as luxembourgish or dutch is in terms of sound
