@pauljamison: It might look like they are completely ruining this yard by burying it in dirt, but spreading topsoil—a process called top dressing—is actually one of the greatest things you can do for your turf! 🌱🚜 If you want that thick, golf-course quality green carpet, here are the 3 main reasons you need to be top dressing: 1️⃣ Leveling the Surface: Over time, lawns get lumpy from settling, worm castings, and heavy equipment. A fine layer of topsoil or sand fills in all those micro-divots, giving you a perfectly flat, true surface so your mower stops scalping the high spots! 📏 2️⃣ Improving Soil Quality: Your grass is only as healthy as the dirt it grows in. Adding a premium compost or topsoil mix introduces rich organic matter and beneficial microbes deep into the root zone, creating incredibly robust, drought-resistant turf. 🦠💦 3️⃣ Breaking Down Thatch & Aiding Seed: A thin layer of topsoil actually helps speed up the decomposition of thatch (that dead layer of grass stems). Plus, if you are overseeding, top dressing provides the absolute perfect seed-to-soil contact for massive germination rates! 🌾📈 It looks like a mess for a few days, but the results are an absolute game-changer. Do you offer top dressing to your clients, or have you done it on your own yard? Let me know in the comments! 👇🗣️

If you’re using a spreader like this, how does the soil reach some of the lowest points/holes? Will it naturally move to it, or do I need to spot fill? Got lots of small holes in lawn.
