Her parents told police she disappeared while sleeping in the back room of their restaurant in Ohio. An endangered child alert was sent out across the state and officers searched everywhere for the little girl. But the next day the case took a horrifying turn. Investigators searched the restaurant again and found Ashley's body hidden near a freezer in the kitchen. She had never left the building. Police soon discovered the truth was far darker than anyone imagined. Ashley's mother later admitted she became angry while working long hours and violently assaulted her daughter. Instead of calling 911 after Ashley stopped breathing, her parents hid her body and reported her missing. The case shocked the entire community because the people meant to protect Ashley were the ones responsible for her death. In 2017 Ashley's mother pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and was sentenced to 22 years in prison. Her father also received prison time for helping conceal the crime.
