Alice's body was in the bathroom. She had multiple wounds to her neck. For years the case went cold. It was briefly reopened in 2014, but no suspects were named or arrested at that time. In 2025, police went back to square-one, relaunching a full reinvestigation of Hawkes’ case. That led the Maine Attorney General's Office to announce a murder charge against Bouchard on May 8, 2026.
