The project began in 2019 after the municipality searched for a more sustainable alternative to plastic sun covers traditionally used in the town center. Led by crochet teacher Eva Pacheco, the women used recycled fabric, donated textile scraps, and leftover yarn to handcraft hundreds of colorful crochet panels. These pieces were later joined together and suspended above Calle Málaga, creating around 500 square meters of shade for pedestrians. The installation quickly became known for combining environmental sustainability with traditional handcraft. The crochet canopy features geometric designs, floral patterns, and woven artwork that changes the appearance of the historic street while also helping reduce direct sunlight during temperatures that can reach 40°C in summer.
