What really bothers me is servers having to tip out on sales not actual tips received. No one should have to pay money to serve a table. I assume it's because there is a concern servers would underreport tips but still.

my problem is that we tip out even when we don't have the support staff.

I need all servers to have at least a couple weeks of training in bussing and hosting.

I was a host at a mini golf bar place for a while and we had a different server and theme for each floor. I would always recommend the floor where the server was the nicest to me 🙂‍↕️

when servers used to try to compare jobs when i hosted, i said “i see 100% of the bad tables while you see 5% of them. i don’t get to go to the back to turn off, im on go til i clock out” (i worked at yardhouse)

im going to complain when i make $230 in tips and bring home $185. because i have no support staff and worked the entire shift alone. all that money went to the kitchen, whos hourly wage is way more than mine

We tipped out bussers at Olive Garden. All they were required to clean off the table was cups and wipe the table down . It really wasn't enough to justify the tip out. If you live a state that pays less than minimum wage hourly plus your tips, you shouldn't have to tip out anyone, but a service bartender.

Don’t get me wrong… it f*cking sucks but it is what it is and if it makes me more comfortable in the long run, I won’t complain

I have no problem tipping out the food runners and bar but most days I’m having to run my own drinks and apps, bussing my own tables, and making my own drinks plus others. So when I’m doing their job on top of mind it makes me upset that I’m paying them to slack

see we complain at my job cs we end up having to do our own jobs AND the hosts jobs. thats the issue. if our tables got bussed in a timely manner that didnt end up leading us to have to do it all ourselves, we would be completely okay with tipping them out🥰

I am at my first job WITH support staff and I LOVE them! My teen hosts are so sweet and I have zero issue with tipping out them, the bar or kitchen. Having support staff is amazing

Ur tips would be significantly lower without support staff bc service would be way less enjoyable

my problem is tipping busers when I bussed every single one of my tables why am I tipping when you did no work for me (nor was the buser picking up other tasks that benefited like doing dishes when we didn't have dish pit) thats the only time I care about tipping out but also tips based on sales vs tips which has mostly been a issue at my current restaurant

As a busser/host who doesn’t get tip out yes sometimes we deserve it, especially when I’m doing a servers job half the time

I worked at a high-volume self-seating restaurant where tip out was on the server’s judgement, and I can tell you the extra $50 I have to the bussers ended up making me an extra $100 bc my tables were always clean for the next guests whereas the other servers would be slower bc their tables stayed dirty longer
