(1) They should lower the retirement age across all judicial levels, make it retroactive, but also set a sunset. Just for spite. (2) They should argue that the amendment that changed their redistricting process did not follow the correct order of operations (as argued by THIS case's final decision), thereby nullifying the independent commission, and the legislature has full power to change the maps.

the problem is the judges will appeal their forced retirements and challenge the constitutionality of the change in retirement age. it will be a bullshit argument but SCOTUS would probably side with them for long enough to throw the whole thing off.

Redistricting in general causes voter apathy. People don’t like it—left or right. We need a progressive to run on ending it federally. I’ll always vote in support of something like Virgina, because it’s evening the odds at the end of the day. But boy am I tired of it.
