@soheefit: Exactly 0% of this is advice; I’m simply sharing my personal subjective experience! Of course, everyone’s journey is different. I forgot to mention that I did end up getting a 2nd degree tear, which I didn’t feel happen at all. It honestly was not even close to as bad I thought it would be (likely due to the epidural!).

10000% agree with all of this. birth class and doula were soooo helpful. my birth plan got royally thrown out the window, but I understood what was happening and felt mildly prepared, plus the doula helped walked me through things

Jen Hamilton's book has been REALLY helpful for me lately. I'm on baby #2 but I had a c section for my first. I'm scared to labour, but excited to meet our new little.

Thank you for being transparent- I recall the fear and people don’t talk about it. We need to share honestly

thank you so much Sohee, I'm terrified of pregnancy and birth, and at 35+ years I also fear my body won't deal with it as well as it might have in my 20s. It's the first time I hear someone's experience who was also terrified! Thank you for sharing your experience and your prep.

I was terrified for labor and birth, and now I often relive the experience wishing I could go back (and looking forward to the day I can do it again). Is it painful, yes. Is it hard, yes. But also empowering and wonderful and not nearly as bad as my anxious brain made it out to be!

tbh it may vary from pregnancy to pregnancy. My friend during her first pregnancy was miserable and labor was painful, her second pregnancy she was glowing and labor was sooo easier. still I'm happy for you that your experience was bearable 💖

I am so happy you had a positive experience, that will help if you decide to do it all again! It’s always nice to hear positive stories because usually you only hear about the negative ones.

My mum said the same thing about the pushing! She said it felt better, still painful but better because there was somewhere to put the pain mentally, like knowing ‘okay this is the pain that is bringing my child too me’ she said if the pushing was worse than the contractions she’d never have another child, I have 4 brothers so she had 4 more after the first!

Doulas are amazing and I wish insurance covered them. Mine knew my L&D nurses and even knew which ones on shift that night might conflict with my personality, so we were able to handle that without any conflicts happening. I did not get an epidural, and the pain was intense, but manageable with the right mindset and support.

Girl you are a queen. And yes to the pushing feeling like relief. Pushing 1000% felt like the best pain relief. You’re right it hurts but it’s not the worst. If it was we wouldn’t do it again.

yes! thank you! in my country they do C-section as if the worst part of labor was the birth itself and they use anesthesia only right before it. It baffles me the amount of ignorance there is about and around it!

Labor pains are "constructive" where as when you stub your toe or break a bone it's super super painful. It helped me to remember that all this pressure and pain is very constructive and brings my baby closer to me xx

I had the most positive first birthing experience! I got induced and was only in labour for 4.5 hours. I had no pain relief, once I got to transition I was locked in. 10 pushes and she was out, 2nd degree year. I was up and walking around so quick after the birth with no pain at all after. not even going to the toilet after hurt. I'm now pregnant for the second time and first trimester is kicking my butt so hard 😂

Everyone is different, of course, but for me it was extremely important to see what could happen. I watched reality shows about childbirth. The kind where dramatic things usually happen, but everyone turns out okay in the end. I wanted to be prepared for the “what if.” A “what if” actually did happen during my son’s birth, and because I had seen real situations on Tv, not just the more sanitized version shown in classes I felt more prepared for what was happening. That dramatic birth resulted in an annoying but deeply loved teenager who was worth every second of those 17 hours.

I am so glad you had a positive labour experience. Informed consent is sooo soo important. Birth pain is such an interesting thing. Pushing wasn't painful at all. I didn't feel my tear. it was the transition contractions that terrified me coz I didn't know I was transitioning. I thought it was gonna get worse 😅

Was terrified of my scheduled c-section [high risk if I went into natural labor]. During my spinal tap I kept repeating in my mind “just a little longer & we’ll meet our son. I can do this. Just get through this last step. He’ll be safe & out soon. Just a little longer.” I had an amazing L&D nurse who helped ground me throughout & I loved her. My husband also grounded me during the actual surgery but having that nurse there when I was left alone to get stitched was the most needed thing in that moment. We’re 2 months out & our NICU baby has come home, grown, and is eating like a champ 😩🙌🏻 we can do hard things even if they’re scary!👏🏻
