Lagos State has expanded the rail component of its strategic transport master plan from six to 11 rail lines. The plan also includes one monorail. The update was announced by the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority, LAMATA, on July 12, 2026. Before the update, the state’s rail plan consisted of six colour-coded lines. Two of them are already in operation: the Blue Line runs from Mile 2 to Marina in its first phase and the Red Line connects Oyingbo and Agbado through major transport hubs including Yaba, Mushin, Oshodi, Ikeja, Agege and Iju. The remaining four planned lines are the Green, Purple, Yellow and Orange lines. The Green Line is expected to connect Marina to the Lekki Free Trade Zone. The Federal Government has allocated ₦146.14 billion for the project. The Purple, Yellow and Orange lines are also expected to expand rail access across Lagos and neighbouring communities. The latest update adds five new rail lines to the long-term transport plan. However, LAMATA has not disclosed their names, routes or timelines. When contacted by Ikeja Record, LAMATA’s Head of Corporate Communications, Mr. Kolawole Ojelabi, said the information is not yet available. Ikeja Record also reached out to the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation but we were yet to receive a response before publishing this news report. ✍🏾: Omon Okhuevbie 📹: Omon Okhuevbie 💻: Solomon Elusoji This video was made possible by our readers, advertisers and donors.
