@drdeborahparenting: You say no to pancakes. Your child throws the bowl on the floor. Most parents start reacting to the explosion instead of the behavior, “Why would you do that? Pick it up right now.” But the child already learned: throwing the bowl changed the direction of the moment. Here’s what to install: the Meal Closure Protocol. Step 1: Hold the food boundary before the meltdown starts. “Tonight we’re having green beans. Pancakes are not available.” Step 2: The second the bowl gets thrown, the meal closes immediately. No backup meal. No negotiating. “You threw the bowl. Dinner is over.” Step 3: Stay neutral. The consequence already taught the lesson. When the boundary holds every time, the testing stops. Children learn limits from predictable outcomes, not explanations. This is one protocol from The Parenting OS, infrastructure that closes the meal without negotiations. #ParentingTips #ParentingCommunity #Parenting #ParentingOS #ParentSupport #PurposedParenting

I just removed my son’s food. Not offering anything else. He learning quickly not to throw his food on the ground. Being hungry is no fun. Before you come at me, I only make food my son likes. But sometimes they want something else. I’m the adult, I decide what’s for dinner.

Then you go to bed hungry 🤷‍♀️you get what’s made for that meal. And no snacks, your only option is what was made

It does depend cause to be fair if the kid clearly doesn’t like that vegetable, then you should try another vegetable instead of the same one over again

It's not a good idea to leave them hungry. Using food as a punishment or something that can be taken away at any moment can increase the chances of the child later having an eating disorder. That's why so many college or uni students will refuse themselves food when they do poorly, it's not about what the parent did, its about the fact they weaponized it and treated it as something that can be taken. If a child is not going to eat the meal you've provided, you don't give them the unhealthy meal they want, you let them make themselves a smaller snack or smaller meal alternative. But it cannot be unhealthy, refusing dinner will not get them the food they want, it will just leave them to figure out what they can have. And no, letting a child have a different healthy meal they want isn't "letting them win a tantrum" if your child wanted something else that was healthy to eat then it should've just been given. As a child who is learning what they like should be encouraged to eat the healthy foods they like.
