@gerardseetoh: Flaring of elbows while doing a shoulder press be it at a machine or free weights increases the risk of shoulder impingement and injury. It puts strain on the shoulder joints and reduces efficiency in lifting. Remember to bring your shoulder blades (scapula) back, keep your elbows pointing down and focus on driving the weight up with your elbows. Drive upwards to about 85% distance focusing tension on the deltoids and reducing pressure on the traps, maintaining scapular retracted.
