great way of putting it. yeah I think I've sort of arrived at this advice. also knowing when a topic is dry, or maybe you overestimated their interest in a topic

It’s important to think of conversation like playing catch. You have the ball for a little while (you speak) Then you throw the ball to the other person (they speak). It’s not playing catch if you have the ball the whole time. It has to go back-and-forth for it to be fun.
