This cow did not study physics. She did not read Archimedes. She definitely did not bring a calculator. Yet the moment she enters this flooded river in Inner Mongolia, she starts demonstrating the same physical principles taught in science class.

As the cow moves into deeper water, her body displaces water and experiences buoyant force. This is the basic idea behind Archimedes’ principle: an object immersed in fluid experiences an upward force equal to the weight of water her body displaces.

Gravity is pulling the cow downward while buoyancy acts upward. Once she begins swimming, her legs repeatedly push against the water and generate thrust, helping move her forward. At the same time, the flowing river creates resistance and can push her downstream.

So the cow is not consciously calculating anything. Her body is simply interacting with the water according to the laws of physics.

And that is what makes the scene so funny. Somewhere, a physics teacher is drawing arrows on a whiteboard to explain gravity, buoyancy, thrust and drag. This cow has apparently decided to skip the lecture and perform the practical demonstration herself.

She enters the muddy water, keeps paddling against the moving current and eventually reaches the opposite bank.
Gravity pulls. Buoyancy pushes. Her legs generate thrust. The current supplies drag. The cow supplies absolutely no homework.

Did you expect her to beat a current moving like this?
