@investwithqueenie: Housing affordability is a huge issue in Australia, and I completely understand the reasoning behind trying to reduce investor demand in property. The part I’m still trying to understand is why the capital gains tax discount changes also apply to shares and other investments too. If anything, I feel like we should still be encouraging Australians to invest outside of property. Curious to hear different perspectives on this one 👀
It was never about helping younger people into their first home. It’s a tax grab disguised (very poorly) as a helpful event.

They want to avoid discriminating across the investor class. However, we have to be honest shares are objectively a more productive investment than property. Not sure why this is not addressed, I understand the intention for the changes just do not understand the execution. 🙃

They dont want their property portfolios to crash, its why all assets are hit evenly. Less people leaving the market.

It’s just a blatant cash grab. This government has been spending and wasting money on a massive scale since they came to power. They’ll leave an absolute disaster behind them when they get voted out.

Labor is trying to fund their war campaign. They need the funding to increase the defence budget, pay for the AUKUS bill, build refueling stations and military bases, pay for deployments to Middle East to aid the U.S, pay millions for antisemitism campaigns, bribe the neighbouring countries not to sign deals with China and allow military bases at our doorstep and so on. And they ain’t gonna tax the mining, oil and gas industry who are their lobbyists. So they defund your healthcare like NDIS, they defund veterans health. AND they see how salary income is disproportionately taxed as opposed to wealth. So wealth is this untapped revenue gold mine that will help
