@bluecamfiles8634: How do you SLEEP as a solo sailor?! ⛵️🫠 Sleep is one of the most important things to consider when u go sailing alone… if you get tired, you make mistakes. That leads to real trouble. So how do we manage this? Primarily, It depends where in the world you are: A) a busy shipping lane off the coast (think English Channel) 🚢 B) the southern ocean (I haven’t seen another boat for two weeks) 🌊 In busy areas I sleep on deck, setting an alarm for every 20 minutes or for about half as long as it takes me to reach my visible horizon. In open ocean, I’ll sleep down below for 45 minutes at a time. I also have AIS alarms set up to alert me if another boat gets close and I can use radar if visibility is really poor. For offshore sailors, AIS is our lifeline for being able to rest properly. So I’ve invested in the best AIS receiver possible. I’ll talk more about the gear that keeps us safe gear later on. For now.. fair winds and following seas! 🌊⛵️ I’m off for a nap! # #solosailing #findyourrhythm #offshoresailing #oceanracing #transatlantic

I was an offshore fisherman for a while and I can tell you that we would sleep all night we just anchor and keep our radar on with an alarm if anything came up on the radar
