All I know is that she was an elderly waitress in a small restaurant in Osaka, and somehow she became one of my favorite memories from Japan. She kept coming over to check on us, making sure we had everything we needed. Nothing dramatic happened. She was simply kind. And maybe that’s why it touched me so much. In a world where everyone seems busy and in a rush, she made complete strangers feel cared for. Years from now, I probably won’t remember exactly what I ate at that restaurant. But I’ll remember her. Sometimes the most memorable part of a trip isn’t a famous landmark or a beautiful view.
