I always say “the system changes automatically. There is nothing I can do to access that menu anymore” and if they ask for discounts, “unfortunately no discounts are provided after happy hour time”. Works flawlessly

as someone who has set up POS in several locations, we can actually set happy hour to only work within a certain time frame. unless you're server is a manger, ( and possibly not even then) you can't ring in happy hour prices
