T.S. Nistor The Dungeon Writer :
I plan to run two rounds of beta readers. First, closed beta readers, aka my family and closest friends who are all readers from various categories. Some of them are heavy readers, while others only read occasionally. Some are into my genres, being psychological thrillers and mystery, some have never touched a mystery book in their life, because they are more into fantasy/sci-fi/ya etc. All these opinions are valid for me. In my mind, if my manuscript can leave a lasting impression regardless of the category and fit, then it means that I must have done something right. Second round will be later on as open beta readers, aka total strangers. May be readers, writers, or both, doesn’t matter. Now, I’ve managed to convince my friends and family to be my most relentless critiques, and it helped a lot. But either way you put it, it’s still biased. So, that’s why I think a second round is needed. As for the numbers, I aim for 10 betas tops (closed + open). Anything more than that, for me, could turn into noise or repetitive info. That’s my sweet spot. Hope it helps, guys😁
