it would've been more lore accurate aswang and possibly creepier if they added a bird-like sound that would tell the player if it's near. however, just like in the lore, the farther the squawk sounds the nearer it actually gets and vice versa.

The Aswang will also stop a hunt if your hiding and they find your hiding spot. They cannot kill you in your official hiding spot. They don’t search. They like to chase.
