@plannedtraveller: Stop a burning gas cylinder by cutting off its oxygen supply. Firmly approach the cylinder from the upwind side, protect your hands with a thick, wet towel, and drape it smoothly over the top to smother the flames. Immediately after, close the cylinder valve and move the tank outdoors. NB:Never stand directly in front of the cylinder when attempting this.
