Unfortunately these characters end up overhated by the community and it breaks my heart. Its so easy to give the MC a pass for everything cause their motivations are clearly understood, all actions seem justified, their flaws are harder to spot, so its nice to have a reminder of how they come across to people who don’t have all that info about them.

One version that I wish we’d see more of is the MC’s ex who absolutely clocks the MC’s tea when everyone else is hyping them up. And not a toxic ex; like if anything the MC is the toxic ex 😂

Yeah, thinking about this and various main characters I have for different oc universes, I came to think about who would hate or dislike them at the least. I have a detective and whilst she's pretty friendly, her morals can shift when the person doing wrong is her friend. There's someone else in the story who is very perceptive and can tell that the detective hangs around someone who does horrible things and isn't trying to change at all. Though maybe that's just more so a dislike of hypocrisy and the moral failing there.

One of the best modern examples of this has to Rosalie from Twilight. When you finally find out why she hates Bella it’s actually so compelling? And then for them to form an alliance in the final book not bc they suddenly like each other but bc their goals align in complete opposition to all the other characters? Probably my favorite thing about the Twilight books by far.

I have one of those and my MMC is quite aware. He commented once, “This guy probably sees my face and wonders ‘oh god, what now?’” 😅 It only gets worse. They briefly become actual enemies in book 2 and even when they end up on the same side again, they never reconcile, and one dies mad about it.

My character for this is Prince Madison, who doesn't like my MC because she just doesn't think shes really fit to rule a kingdom for the many history's from her brother who is currently king. (Also, if anyone's confused with why I put Prince even though I put "she," is because she is a girl and identifies as such, but doesn't really want the role or title of princess.)
