It’s fair for them to understand your role. It’s fair for them to know if you’re going to be their supervisor. It sounds like your mom is telling them she doesn’t care where certain things go and then you’re telling them you do care and want them a certain way, so they are getting mixed messages. From their perspective, they’re hearing “I don’t care where you put that” then you are coming in and saying “why is that here it shouldn’t be,” so they’re feeling criticized and confused because they aren’t sure of your in charge or your mother is. It’s fair to clarify your role to them, so they know of they should ask questions to you or your mom. Your mom sounds pretty laid back and hands off, you sound very involved and highly detailed oriented, which are very different personalities to work with. They need to know who they should be reporting to and who will be giving directions bc it’s hard to hear something is nbd from your mom and they hear criticism from you
