And what makes it worse, they close the smaller hospitals. Ascension/henry ford whatever it is now had a small hospital near me in a rural area. It used to be 8 min from my house. Slowly they started taking away all their services. Honestly I think all they have is an ER and imaging now. We’re all crossing our fingers it doesn’t close but if you need to be admitted, they send you all way the way down to Detroit because they have no rooms or specialists anymore. And if you have no way to get back home once they release you from Detroit, you’re fucked. The next nearest hospital is 2 towns over and a 30 min drive. It’s literally life and death in smaller towns.

What makes it worse is that legally these hospitals are non-profits, which should work in favor of patients. But of course, it doesn’t.

I have worked in healthcare for over 30 years. Started at Oakwood who was bought out by Beaumont who was bought out by Spectrum Health to become Corewell Health. Oakwood took care of its people, the other 2 not so much
