@itvnews: PCOS - a hormonal condition affecting 1 in 8 women in the UK - will now be called PMOS. So why has the name changed, and how could this help the millions of women with the condition? #itvnews #pcos #womenshealth
Changing the name to PMOS is great but will it actually lead to faster diagnoses and better care?

PCOS even though it’s called polyCYSTIC, it doesn’t mean cysts on your ovaries. it means a large amount immature follicles in a peripheral arrangement on your ovaries - Sonographer! Thank God the name has changed so people can understand it doesn’t mean cysts on your ovaries

Instead of a name change, why not do more for us who suffer with this? I'm 33 now, got diagnosed at 16 and guess what? I've seen a specialist 2 times since being diagnosed.. ridiculous!! MORE needs to be done.

My daughter got diagnosed at 16 after years of struggle. When the GP diagnosed, she told my daughter to go home and google it. That was the whole appointment. No explanation. No questions taken. Just “yes, you’ve got it. Go home and google it. Goodbye!”

The old name made it sound like it was just an ovary problem, it’s actually a whole-body condition. This is a small but significant change, and a welcome start...

I was misdiagnosed with pcos 10 years ago as I had majority symptoms but no cysts. No other tests done. Fertility issues resulted in another scan last year were a nurse told me to push the GP for my blood results as pcos can only be confirmed through bloods if no cysts. Apparently I don’t have it and waiting further tests for other hormone conditions. Women’s health is not taken seriously enough.
