@munka100: In April 2013, Jason Collins🌈🏀picked up the phone and called his agent. Then he called Sports Illustrated. Then he shared publicly that he was Gay, becoming the first #openlyGay 🌈 🤎active male player in any of North America’s four major professional sports leagues. Collins went on to become an NBA ambassador and a powerful advocate for #LGBTQplus #inclusion in sport, proving to millions of people that professional men’s team sports and being openly Gay were never incompatible. Every athlete who came out after him walked through a door he helped force open. In late 2025, Collins revealed he had been diagnosed with glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer. He travelled to Singapore for experimental treatment, recovered enough to attend NBA All-Star Weekend in Los Angeles and watch his alma mater Stanford play, before the cancer returned. #JasonCollins 🕊️✝️ died peacefully at home on 12 May 2026, surrounded by family, according to statements released by the #NBA and his loved ones. He is survived by his husband, Brunson Green, his twin brother Jarron Collins, and a legacy that changed professional sport forever. Rest easy, Jason 🏀🌈🕊️💐💐✝️
