This happens several nights per week at Marcus Williams's home. Marcus is thirty-nine, Army Ranger, severe PTSD from Iraq. The dog is Ghost-a six-year-old German Shepherd, retired military working dog with his own combat PTSD. Phone video from bedroom camera shows 3:18 AM. Marcus thrashing in his bed-nightmare. Ghost on the floor also starts nightmare-whimpering, legs kicking like he's running. Marcus wakes up gasping from his nightmare. Immediately notices Ghost having a nightmare. Gets out of bed. Goes to Ghost. Holds him. Whispers: 'You're safe. We're home. It's okay.

Marcus told us: "Ghost and I both have PTSD nightmares. Some nights he wakes me from mine. Some nights I wake him from his. Then we sit together until we both remember we're safe." Marcus's therapist said: "Marcus and Ghost are helping each other process trauma. They're trauma survivors caring for each other." Sometimes PTSD means you wake up from your nightmare screaming to find your dog having his nightmare and you hold him the way you wish someone held you.
Okayyy I’m officially in my sourdough era 😂 I went to a sourdough starter class the other day with @Shirley's Table Bakery Co. in Mont Belvieu, and she sent us home with this sourdough muffin recipe! I made mine with blueberries + added a crumb topping because obviouslyyyyy. 🤤 Save this one for the next time you have sourdough discard to use! Sourdough Blueberry Muffins ½ cup sourdough starter or discard ½ cup neutral oil (avocado or vegetable) 2 large eggs 2 tsp vanilla extract ¾ cup sour cream or plain Greek yogurt ¼ cup whole milk 1 cup granulated sugar 2½ cups all-purpose flour 2 tsp baking powder 1 tsp baking soda ¾ tsp salt Blueberries, about 1 cup Crumb Topping: 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted ½ cup sugar ¼ cup all-purpose flour Pinch of fine sea salt Whisk together the starter, oil, eggs, vanilla, sour cream, milk and sugar. In a separate bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Add the dry ingredients to the wet and mix just until combined, then gently fold in your blueberries. Divide into 12 muffin cups, about ¾ full, and sprinkle generously with the crumb topping. Bake at 425°F for 5 minutes, then reduce the oven to 375°F and bake another 20–24 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
