texture packs are getting harder to start from scratch as new stuff gets added. maintenance is well, not fun to do when you get preoccupied with other things, as people tends to do

I think its also just, harder. The game has had a lot more updates, more and more textures become animated or more complicated than just block faces. Making a pack for pre-adventure update is probably waaaaaay easier than doing it nowadays.
