My Honda 3.5 did the same thing. looked like plasma cutter notched it out. I wondered if the cylinder deactivation caused carbon build up.

I think Dave is absolutely right on this one. A small caterpillar engine in my shop with a piston burnt all the way down the side look like that valve, but the injector is what I normally would say would cause that but no, it wasn’t. It was a cracked head, allowing an oxygen to get into the chamber and cause that to happen.

No matter what I’m doing no matter where I’m at. I change my oil with 3000 miles sometimes less and I use nothing but mobile one. I’m sure there’s other oils out there but that’s my poison.👍
