I worked with a cameraman once who was close to retirement age, had travelled the entire world, seen so many things and had a successful career in documentary film. I asked him where his favourite place he’s been yet was, and he said he couldn’t answer because he was never really there. He only got to see things through the lens of his camera, so he might as well have been the person watching on the screen. That stuck with me.

I grew up with a mom who takes pictures of literally anything and everything, I never understood it for so long until I realized the only reason she took those pictures was out of fear. Fear that her next generation won't remember the same memories, fear that her name will be wiped from the Earth once she's gone. But its okay if people forget. It's okay for 100 years to pass and only be known as a gravestone. You deserve to celebrate yourself without others celebrating you. And you deserve to die knowing you fulfilled your own life, not living a life with half of your experiences becoming forced memories of fake fulfillment for your children and then their children and so on. You deserve to be selfish and experience life without the restriction of needing someone else to experience it with you, because we are all connected and your memories still carry on in the stars.

the fact that he went all around the world, searching for meaning, for the most beautiful picture to be on the cover of the magazine, only for him not only have it at his desk the entire time, but also be literally him on the cover, showing his dedication to the magazine, and finding out he was the beautiful thing all along makes me cry so much, because we really dont see how sometimes the answer is within us, we are the beautiful thing we keep searching for 🥺🥺🥺
