Her public ministry became especially associated with Pittsburgh, where her healing services drew large crowds for many years. Kuhlman spoke often about the Holy Spirit with unusual tenderness. Her ministry was remembered for miracles, crowds, and public meetings, but the heart of her message continually returned to surrender. She did not want people to admire a vessel and miss the One working through the vessel. There is a kind of public Christianity that quietly loses the sweetness of being alone with God. The work continues, the language remains, the meetings still happen, yet the soul grows unfamiliar with the Presence. “The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all” 2 Corinthians 13:14.
