Genuinely while reading the book, you feel such sadness at Grace’s self hatred. He feels so alone, he feels scared and he feels like he has no impact. It’s genuinely so heartbreaking to read because he was always making an impact. He was a teacher who made kids excited to go to class, he was a college friend who had weekly meetups with his friends. They went to the same place every week and he was known by the entire diner and he had a specific table and an order that was remembered. Grace was known, and he was loved.

In the book he was so confused and a bit angry at Rocky for coming to save him - all while he was risking life and limb to save Rocky in the same breath. I think the way the movie used Stratt and Rocky as a mirror of who Grace really was (as opposed to the way the book used the flight crew, the other scientists, and Rocky) to show us how easily that man managed to worm his way into other people’s hearts was really smart given their limited screen time for the adaptation

Ever since I was 14, I wished for a story where the hero doesn't look brave. I wished for a story where the main character is a sobbing coward the whole time but they succeed anyway. I'm so afraid all the time, I couldn't see myself in a typical brave hero. I desperately needed to see Grace's kind of bravery save the day because it's all I have. He means so much to me 😭❤️🩹

I’ve never felt the way I feel about Grace about another fictional character before. I have a few comfort characters, sure, but Grace? He’s provided me with more comfort in the past month and a half than I’ve felt from a character in so long. I love him so much!!
