I learned the hard way that the more you give flexibility in last-minute situations, the more you give grace and try to be conflict-free the more they take advantage of you. I now have my ex on a parenting app. So if any conflict arises, attorneys and judges can be granted access to it, which has lessened conflict because he already had to be reminded that it can be accessed at any time. That means no outside contact out of the app only in emergencies.
